NFL demonstrations imply that the nation
is racist. This is no longer true, as evidenced by the comradery of white and
black players in the NFL itself. No, the primary source of racism in America is
its government. Here are examples:
· Minimum wage laws
are a key reason for high unemployment among young black men. When a man’s hourly
value is lower than the minimum hourly wage, the wretched minimum-wage laws prevent
employers from hiring him. The laws are racist.
· Teachers unions,
especially in the central cities, care more about high teachers' pay and continued
employment of bad teachers than about the quality of education. Faulty federal labor
laws give unions too much power.
· The war on drugs causes
potential black entrepreneurs to be jailed, cutting short otherwise productive
careers. If elite children were frequently being jailed, the war on drugs would
soon be repealed.
· The David-Bacon
Act suppresses blacks from being hired for high-paying union construction jobs.
· Creditors are
reluctant to lend to small businesses because interest rates, set too low by the
Federal Reserve, don’t give creditors sufficient protection from the risks of
default. Without the loans, small businesses, a major source of employment, must
therefore reduce their hiring.
· Subsidized housing
for the poor physically separates blacks who live there from whites who live
elsewhere. If government terminated the subsidies, corporations and private
companies would build suitable and better integrated housing.
Government is the primary source of racism
in America.
