Despite promises to help the poor,
big-government policies have hurt them instead. The rich have thrived partly
because of billions of crony government dollars to help them. But after
inflation, the poor and middle class in the last twenty years have become
poorer.
Not realizing that liberalism is to blame,
prosperous liberals have adopted the view that America is racist, sexist,
homophobic, and militaristic. But these are bigotries of old. Shelby Steele, of
Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, writes, “Bigotry exists, but it is
far down on the list of problems that minorities now face. I grew up black in
segregated America, where it was hard to find an open door. It’s harder now for
young blacks to find a closed one.”
Apparently, the millionaire football
players disrespecting the nation’s anthem are unaware of how much America has
changed.
