Why Bureaucrats are Wrong about the Pandemic

Politicians are relying on bureaucrats to deal with the pandemic. But the dynamics of government make them wrong about it:
-- Government employees are the only people who are permitted to exercise force. Bureaucrats cannot be fired and are paid more than those with equivalent jobs in the private sector. With a “we-they” attitude, bureaucrats are inclined to impose force and have little empathy about the ill effects.
-- Since government has no profits, bureaucrats find other ways to measure their self-worth.
-- Bureaucrats prefer not to actually solve social and economic problems. This would render their jobs unnecessary.
For any respiratory pandemic, the best solution is for younger people to mingle with others and become immune. Some may develop minor symptoms, but few will die. After a few months, the disease dies, and older people may mingle as well.
Even though older people may have the virus in their bodies, the majority die from other causes. Bureaucrats report such deaths as coronavirus deaths nevertheless, generating panic and attracting attention to them.
They exaggerate their projections about the pandemic, also fomenting panic.
Rather than trust bacteria to quickly develop immunity, bureaucrats force people to remain at home, grinding down the economy. Widespread immunity is delayed, and countless unnecessary deaths result.
For many citizens, the lockdowns are unnecessary and catastrophic. With little empathy, the bureaucrats feel mistakenly that they’re just trying to save lives.
Nonsense! To save lives, everyone but the old should return to normal life.
