The Media's Conflict of Interest

Why does the media overwhelmingly favor big government?
Because free markets are boring. With hundreds of millions of people fulfilling their own needs, what’s to report? When sex, misfortune, pathos, or wrongdoing is involved, fine, the media can jump on those. But humdrum living by just plain people? Consumers don’t watch television news for that.
Government is different. It’s the only part of society authorized to use force. It impacts everyone, and it’s loaded with secrets. Like kids wanting to know what mummy and daddy are doing behind their bedroom door, people pay to learn about government.
Big government therefore benefits the media. But except for those who work for government and its cronies, big government is bad for everyone else, especially the poor. The media is unaware of its conflict of interest.
Coronavirus Comments: Covid-19 is easily transmitted, but it’s not particularly deadly. Let the virus rage among younger people, therefore, to develop herd immunity as soon as possible. Few will die.
The number of reported Covid-19 deaths is exaggerated. Many people infected by the virus whose deaths were attributed to it have actually died from other causes. I expect true U.S. Covid-19 deaths will end up within the range of annual influenza deaths – 60,000 or less.
The lockdowns are causing deaths from delayed surgery and hospital visits, child molestation by intoxicated parents, spousal abuse, weakened immune systems, anxiety, suicides, renewed deaths when the lockdowns end, and a big step toward national bankruptcy. Otherwise, they're just wonderful.
